Disassembly and Reassembly
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Nut (1).
2. Pitman arm (2).
3. Nut (3).
4. Relay lever (4).
5. End assembly (outer) (5). Apply the setting mark to reassemble the parts in their original position.
6. Nut (6).
7. End assembly (inner) (7). Apply the setting mark to reassemble the parts in their original position.
8. Pin assembly (8).
9. Center track rod assembly (9).
VISUAL CHECK: Inspect the following parts for wear, damage or other abnormal conditions.
^ Pitman arm, relay lever.
^ End assembly, pin assembly.
^ Center track rod assembly.
^ Boot.
^ Ball Joints (Center Track Rod Assembly and Outer Track Rod Track Rod Assembly).
NOTE: If one or more of the abnormal conditions listed in parenthesis is discovered during inspection, the entire track rod assembly(s) must be replaced.
INSPECT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
1. Ball joint boot (Tearing and grease leakage).
2. Ball joint (Rough movement). The ball joint must move smoothly with no snagging.
3. Ball joint screws (Excessive wear and damage).
4. Ball joint tapered surfaces (Excessive wear and damage).
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Center track rod assembly. (1).
2. Pin assembly. (2).
3. End assembly (inner). (3). Align the setting marks applied at the disassembly. End Assembly Torque 12.0 +/- 2.0 kgm ( 86.8 +/- 14.5 lb.ft / 117.7 +/- 19.6 Nm). After tightening, stake the two portions securely.
4. Nut. (4). End Assembly Nut Torque 10.0 +/- 1.0 kgm (72.3 +/- 7.2 lb.ft / 98.1 +/- 9.8 Nm).
5. End assembly (outer) (5). Align the setting marks applied during disassembly.
6. Relay lever (6).
7. Nut (7). Relay Lever Nut Torque 6.0 +/- 0.5 kgm (43.4 +/- 3.6 lb.ft / 58.8 +/- 4.9 Nm).
8. Pitman arm (8).
9. Nut (9). Pitman Arm Nut Torque 10.0 +/- 1.0 kgm (72.3 +/- 7.2 lb.ft / 98.1 +/- 9.8 Nm).
NOTE: When changing the track rod, adjust the track rod length.
ADJUSTMENT: Adjust the toe-in angle.
