Manual Locking Hub Removal

NOTE: The entire front axle assembly must be removed from the vehicle before removing the axle shafts and bearings.

Automatic & Manual Locking Hubs:






Shifting Transfer Lever To 2H; 14mm Hex Bolts:






1. Shift the transfer lever to the 2H position then place the free-wheeling hub to the FREE position, and move the vehicle back and forth about 1 meter (3 feet).
2. Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove tires and skid plate.
3. Remove brake caliper retaining bolts.
4. Remove caliper from steering knuckle, then support with wire out of way.
5. Remove brake pad supporting bracket.
5. Drain gear oil from front differential.

Front Drive Axle Assembly:





6. Remove locking hub assembly.

Clutch Assembly:





7. While pushing follower knob, turn clutch assembly clockwise and then remove clutch assembly from knob.
8. Remove the 6 bolts holding the hub cap to the housing assembly.

Hub Nut Wrench:





9. Using Isuzu Wrench J-36827 or equivalent, remove the large hub nut.
10. Remove snap rings and shims from end of axle shaft.
11. Disconnect tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
12. Disconnect idler arm and pitman arm nuts, then remove steering linkage assembly.
13. Remove steering knuckle and lower control arm as an assembly.
14. Remove engine under cover.
15. Remove front drive shaft and mark for installation reference.

Bolt Removal:






16. Remove the 4 differential mounting bolts and nuts.

Placement Of Jack Under Front Axle:






17. Carefully lower the vehicle and support the differential with the floor jack.
18. Slide jack from under vehicle carefully to prevent damage to axle shaft(s) and boot(s).
