Air Regulator
Air Regulator Testing:
AIR REGULATOR TESTING
NOTE: Begin test with cold engine.
- Start cold engine and check that idle speed is slightly higher than specification.
- Idle speed should normalize at 850 - 950 rpm as engine temperature increases.
- After engine has warmed up, turn it "OFF" and disconnect hose between air regulator and throttle body at throttle body side. Plug hole in throttle body.
- Start engine and alternately open and plug off hose going to air regulator. Engine speed variation between an open and closed hose should be less than 50 rpm.
- Engine speed variation greater than 50 rpm indicates a defective air regulator that should be replaced.
TESTING FOR NO FAST IDLE
- Inspect hoses and connections; replace any defective hoses and ensure tight connections.
- Disconnect air regulator harness connector and check resistance across terminals. If it deviates from the specified 45 - 50 ohms, replace the air regulator.
- With ignition switch "ON," check for voltage at harness connector. If there is no voltage, inspect wiring and fuel pump relay. Repair wiring and/or replace fuel pump relay as necessary.
- If there is voltage present at the harness connector and no other problems have been detected, replace air regulator.
