Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Service and Repair

TBI Unit:





REMOVE
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Relieve fuel system pressure.
- Remove air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect electrical connectors to IAC valve, TPS and fuel injectors.
- Disconnect injection wiring harness.
- Remove throttle cable, transmission control cable, and cruise control cable (if equipped).
- Remove cable support bracket.
- Note position of vacuum hoses and remove hoses and bracket.
- Remove fuel feed and return lines. Use back-up wrench on TBI fuel nuts.
- Remove fuel line O-rings and discard.

TBI Unit:





- Remove TBI bolts and remove unit. Stuff clean shop towel into manifold opening to prevent contaminants from entering engine.

INSTALL
- Reverse steps to refit. Be sure to use new gaskets and seals. Be sure all mating surfaces are clean.
- Tighten TBI mounting bolts to:
18 ft lb (25 Nm)
- Tighten fuel line nuts to:
20 ft lb (27 Nm)
- Check for leaks.
