RODEO (UC) AND PICKUP (TF) POOR THROTTLE PERFORMANCE AT DECELERATION (3.1L V6 ENGINE)
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1991-92 Rodeo (UC) and Pickup (TF) models equipped with 3.1L V6 engine and manual transmission.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Affected vehicles may experience poor throttle performance during deceleration, due to premature fuel cut after clutch disengagement.
To correct the fuel cut timing and eliminate this condition, install a new, recalibrated PROM (listed in "Parts Information" section of this Service Bulletin) in the Electronic Control Module (ECM).
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Replace the PROM (computer chip) in the ECM as follows:
1. Remove ECM as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual.
2. Remove PROM (computer chip) from ECM.
3. Install a new, improved PROM, using parts listed in "Parts Information" section of this Service Bulletin. Refer to the installation instructions included with the PROM.
4. Reinstall ECM as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual.
NOTE:
After installing the new PROM, the initial engine start-up rpm will be slightly higher than normal, then stabilize to normal rpm after a few seconds.
