Front Axle Assembly

Original Equipment Service Manuals for this model show the CV shafts on the front axle being removed after the Front Axle Assembly itself has been removed. It may be possible to remove the front CV shafts without removing the entire Front Axle Assembly, however OE Service Manuals do not show such a procedure. The following is the procedure given in the OE Service Manual.

REMOVAL

Front Drive Axle Assembly:






Raise the front of the vehicle and support the frame with jack stands.

Remove or disconnect the following components. The step numbers correspond to the components numbered in the diagram.

Removing Axle Shaft From Hub:






1. Assembly of hub and disc, back plate, knuckle arm and lower end

Aligning The Set Marks On The Propeller Shaft:






2. Propeller shaft

NOTE: Apply the setting marks

3. Nuts and bolts

Placement Of Jack Under Front Axle:




Bolt Removal:




Removing Front Axle Assembly:






5. Front drive axle assembly. Support the center of the front axle and remove the four fixing bolts indicated. Lower the front axle assembly and roll it out toward the front of the vehicle. Take care not to damage the Birfield joints or the double-offset joints.

Install or connect the following components. The step numbers correspond to the components numbered in the diagram.

3. Nuts and bolts, torque to 15.5kg-m (112.1 ft lbs)

Aligning The Set Marks On The Propeller Shaft:






2. Propeller shaft. Align the setting marks applied during the removal process and torque the bolts to 6.4 kg-m (46.3 ft lbs)
