Fuel Tank

NOTE:

a. When working on or near the fuel tank, be sure to observe information molded on the bottom of the fuel tank.
b. Before removing the fuel tank for a suspected leak, make sure fuel hoses are not leaking onto the tank. Once removed, make sure fuel is not leaking around fuel level meter assembly o-ring.
c. This check requires a fuel level meter assembly and O-ring cap to be installed in the fuel tank.

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF.
3. Remove fuel tank. Refer to COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES.
4. Cap fuel feed tube and vapor tube on the fuel level meter assembly.
5. Plug vent hose.
6. Connect a piece of hose to the fuel return tube.
7. Submerge tank in water or apply soap solution to the outside of tank.
8. Apply 7 to 10 kPa (1 to 1 1/2 PSI) air pressure to the fuel return tube on the fuel level meter assembly. Air bubbles appearing from the fuel tank indicate a leak. Replace the fuel tank if it is leaking.
