Automatic Transmission

Battery voltage is applied at all times to the tailgate opener switch through fuse 4. With the rear wiper/washer switch in OFF and the tailgate opener switch closed, battery voltage is applied to the tailgate opener actuator. To prevent accidental damage to the rear wiper when the rear wiper/washer switch is in WIPE or INT, battery voltage is disconnected from the tailgate opener actuator, and the tailgate cannot be opened.

The tailgate opener actuator is grounded through the park contact in the rear wiper motor on switch, the diode box C and the automatic transmission mode switch. With the automatic transmission mode switch in P or N, current flows through the tailgate opener actuator, and the tailgate opens.
