Shift Interlock: Description and Operation
With the engine running or the ignition switch in the ON position and the shift lever in the "P" position, the shift lever cannot be shifted from "P" to another position unless the brake pedal is depressed. A signal is sent through the park switch to the safety lock control unit and the shift lock solenoid energizes, preventing the shift lever from being moved. When the brake pedal is depressed, a signal is sent to the safety lock control unit. The control unit then deenergizes the shift lock solenoid and allows the shift lever to be moved.
