Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair






REMOVAL

- Preparation: Battery negative cable. Drain the coolant.

Left side

1. Intake manifold
2. Exhaust pipe
- Disconnect exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
3. Ground cable
- Remove the ground cable connector from the dash board.
4. Sensor connector
- Disconnect water temperature sensor connector from left front of head.
5. Drive belt
6. A/C compressor
- Remove the A/C compressor with bracket and hose.
7. Power steering pump
8. Spark plug wire
- Remove power steering pump with bracket and hoses.
9. Rocker arm cover
10. Rocker arms
11. Pushrods
12. Cylinder head bolts
13. Cylinder head
14. Cylinder head gasket


Right side

15. Intake manifold
16. Exhaust pipe
- Disconnect exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
17. Ignition coil connectors
18. Cruise control vacuum hose (if so equipped)
19. Ignition coil bracket
- Remove from cylinder head.
20. Spark plug wire
21. Belt tensioner
22. Generator bracket
- Remove the generator bracket with generator.
23. Rocker arm cover
24. Rocker arms
25. Pushrods
26. Cylinder head bolts
27. Cylinder head
28. Cylinder head gasket


INSTALLATION


- To install, follow the removal steps in the reverse order, noting the following points.
1. Place the gasket in position over the dowel pins, with the note "This side up" showing.





2. Tighten the cylinder head bolt to the specified torque, in sequence shown in Fig. 6A1-12. Torque N.m (lb.ft.) 55 (41) + 90°
