Thermostatic Air Cleaner: Description and Operation

ACL:

ACL Operation:

PURPOSE
Used to control the temperature of the intake air. Provides heated air from around the exhaust manifold to promote efficient fuel atomization during cold start and engine warm up.

OPERATION
A temperature sensor within the air cleaner modifies a vacuum signal sent to the vacuum motor. Depending on air temperature, a damper door opens or closes to allow heated air to enter the TBI. Air is heated as it is drawn through a tube and stove across an exhaust manifold.

CONSTRUCTION
There THERMAC system consists of the following components:
- Air cleaner assembly - contains temperature sensor, vacuum motor, damper door and inlet fittings.
- Air bleed valve - regulates vacuum allowed to vacuum motor.
- Heat stove - routes air around exhaust manifold for heating purposes.
- Vacuum motor - opens and closes damper door.
- Temperature sensor - measure air temperature and controls air bleed accordingly.
- Hot air tube - Transmits air from the exhaust manifold to air cleaner.
- Damper door - Mixes hot and cool air
