SERVICE INFORMATION
When performing diagnosis using the Tech-I scan tool on the 4L30-E automatic transmission, it is extremely important that the Tech-I is connected correctly. Follow the procedure in this Service Bulletin for proper Tech-1 hook-up to the Transission Control Module (TCM) diagnostic connector.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
To perform 4L30-E A/T diagnosis, connect the Tech-1 as follows:
1. Before connecting the Tech-1, become familiar with the directions in the Tech-1 Operator's Manual.
2. Turn the ignition key to "OFF".
3. a. On Trooper II (KT) and Rodeo models, use Kent-Moore 2-plug adapter J-38770-5 to connect the Tech-1 to the black 2-pin and white 3-pin TCM diagnostic connectors, located behind the left side of the instrument panel, above the kick panel.
b. On Trooper (UX) models, use Kent-Moore 3-pin adapter TA02279B to connect the Tech-I cable to the green 3-pin TCM diagnostic connector, located behind the left center of the instrument panel.
4. Use Kent-Moore battery adapter cable TA-1269 to connect the Tech-1 directly to the battery, which will prevent loss of power when the ignition is cycled on and off during the diagnosis test.
5. Insert Tech-1 program cartridge "OPEL 88-89 ECU" (Kent-Moore J-38770-3), which contains the software required to diagnose the 4L30-E automatic transmission.
