AFFECTED VEHICLES

1990-91 Trooper II (KT), 1992-93 Trooper (UX) and 1991-93 Rodeo (UC) models equipped with 4L30-E automatic transmission with A/T assembly serial number before 4072977.

NOTE
A/T serial number is stamped on the identification plate located on the left side of the transmission case, above the mode switch (Figure 1).

SERVICE INFORMATION

On affected vehicles, when traveling at speeds between 55-75 mph, a damaged 4th clutch piston seal may cause Diagnostic Trouble Code 41 to be set in the A/T transmission control module (TCM). An adapter case kit (Figure 2) is available from American Isuzu Parts Distribution Network, which contains a new, improved adapter case housing, 3-4 accumulator piston, and transfer plate. (See "Parts Information" section of this Service Bulletin.) Some kit components are not applicable to all affected vehicles. This Service Bulletin describes installation of adapter case kit.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

To eliminate Code 41, install the adapter case kit (Figure 2) listed in "Parts Information" section of this Service Bulletin as follows.

1. Check the A/T model code and serial number on A/T identification plate (Figure 1).

2. Refer to Chart 1 for applicable adapter case kit components to be installed. Replace only the applicable components. Refer to the appropriate Workshop Manual for replacement procedures.

NOTE
See "Parts Information" section of this Service Bulletin for 4th clutch piston seal part number.
