Installation

If both axle shafts have been serviced, the following steps should be used for installation. If only one shaft has been serviced, proceed to step 2.

1. Insert a 0.079 inch shim between bearing holder and axle tube end-flange. Slide axle shaft assembly into axle tube and tighten four bearing holder-to-flange bolts evenly to specification.

2. Push opposite axle shaft, assembled without shims, into axle tube until it comes into contact with thrust block in differential. Measure clearance between bearing holder and flange, Fig. 2. Add 0.012 inch to this measurement to obtain correct shim size.
3. Withdraw axle shaft, and install correct thickness shims between bearing holder and flange face. Tighten four bearing holder-to-flange bolts evenly to specification.
4. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten through bolts to specification.
5. Bleed brake system.
