Unit Repair





DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove distributor cap
2. Remove rotor
3. Remove distributor lead wire





4. Remove vacuum control
- Remove the ground terminal and vacuum control mounting screw.





5. Remove the reluctor
- Pry loose the retractor outer cover.
- Insert a screwdriver into the lower side of the reluctor.
- Pull the reluctor free.

6. Remove the breaker plate, magnet and unit
7. Remove the distributor magnet
8. Remove the distributor unit
9. Remove the breaker plate
10. Remove the housing gasket





11. Roll pin
- Break away the staking on the gear set and remove the pin.
- File off staked end of the roll pin, then drive out the roll pin toward the opposite side.

5. Remove the governor weight and the springs from the shaft.

INSPECTION AND REPAIR
Make necessary correction or replace parts if wear, damage or any other abnormal conditions are found through inspection.

REASSEMBLY





1. Install governor flyweight and spring
- Attach the governor spring to the shaft spring hanger pin. The smaller tapered ends of the spring (both ends) should be secured to the lower side of the hook.





2. Install rotor shaft
- Carefully align the rotor shaft (1) notches and the distributor shaft (2) notches when installing the rotor shaft.

3. Install distributor shaft
4. Install pinion gear and gasket





5. Install roll pin
- Carefully align the pinion gear pin hole and distributor shaft pin hole.
- Set the pinion gear with gasket to the distributor shaft.
- Insert the roll pin into the pin hole.
- Stake the roll pin on both sides.

6. Install housing gasket
7. Install distributor unit
8. Install distributor magnet





9. Install breaker plate, magnet and unit
- Carefully align the scribe marks on the breaker plate and the housing.





10. Install reluctor
- The roll pin notch and the retractor notch must be parallel when the roll pin is inserted into the retractor.

11. Install distributor lead wire





12. Install the vacuum control
- Apply vacuum and check that vacuum advance moves.





13. Turn the rotor shaft counter-clockwise, release it, and check that the rotor returns slightly clockwise.





14. Using a feeler gauge, measure the air gap between the pick-up coil projections.

Air Gap: 0.3 - 0.5 mm (0.012 - 0.020 in.)

- Adjust air gap if necessary.
- Loosen the two screws and move the igniter until the gap is correct. Tighten the two screws and check the air gap.
