Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Apply the Parking Brake and start the Engine.
2. Set the Select Lever to NEUTRAL position.
3. Make idle speed adjustment at normal operating temperature.

Idle Speed: 900 rpm

4. Make sure that the Air Conditioner Switch is "OFF".




5. Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Line and Exhaust Gas Recirculation Vacuum Line disconnected and plugged.
6. Connect the Timing Light Lead to the No. 1 Spark Plug Wire.

Timing Mark:




7. Aim the Timing Light at the Crankshaft Pulley notched line.

Ignition Timing: 12° at 900 rpm

Adjustment Bolt:




8. If out of specification, loosen the Mounting Bolt on the Distributor, turn the Distributor clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the timing. After adjustment, tighten the belt to the specified torque.

Torque: 19 N.m (14 lb.ft)

NOTE: When tightening the Distributor Mounting Bolt, ensure that the Distributor Body does not rotate together with the Mounting Bolt.

9. Unplug and reconnect all Vacuum Lines when all adjustments are complete.
