Component and Circuit Testing - General Information

Diagnostic Steps:

INSPECTION PROCEDURES
The inspection based on monitored codes should be performed in the following steps.
1. Check component.
2. Check continuity between component connector and ECM connector terminals. Check harness for short to ground.
- Some circuits may operate more than one component. Be sure to disconnect all components before checking harness for short to ground.
- Disconnect the ECM and component connectors before checking harness continuity.
3. Check ECM.
- When checking ECM harness connector terminals, make connection by inserting a pin into the back side of the connector. Avoid connect the lead directly to the ECM pin.
- When no faults are found in steps 1 and 2 above, clear the ECM memory, road test vehicle and confirm that problem still exists before replacing ECM.
