Handling Precautions

CAUTION: Be careful not to get water on the Electrical System. Pay particular attention to the Fuse and Relay Box and Throttle Valve Switch Connector.

CAUTION: A 12V Battery should be used. When charging the Battery without removing it from the Vehicle, the Battery Cable must be disconnected first. Never disconnect the Battery Cable from the Battery when the Engine is running. Generation of surge voltage may damage the Engine Control Module (ECM) and other electrical parts.

CAUTION: When replacing the Engine Control Module (ECM), make sure to set the Ignition Switch to "OFF" first. When measuring voltage at the ECM Harness Connector, disconnect all the ECM Harnesses first, then, set the Starter Switch to "ON" Position.

CAUTION: When checking the electrical terminals of the Engine Control Module (ECM) with a Tester, do not apply the Probe to Terminal directly but insert a pin into the Terminal from the harness side, and perform the measurement through the pin. If the Tester Probe is held against Terminal directly, the Terminal will be deformed, causing poor contact. Connect each Harness correctly and firmly to ensure a good contact.

NOTE: The Wiring Connectors for the Fuel Injector, Wide Open Throttle Switch, Air Regulator and Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor are provided with locked wires. To unlock the Connector, pull and shake it gently.

CAUTION: ECGI Cables must be placed at least 100 mm (4 in.) away from High Tension Cables. When installing a Radio such as a CB band transceiver in the Vehicle, place it as far away from the Engine Control Module (ECM) as possible, and take the power directly from the Battery. Use a cable as short as possible for the Radio. Do not allow the cable to be slack. Place it as far away as possible from other Harnesses. Correctly ground the Radio to the body of the Vehicle. When the radio is installed, make sure that the Engine is not affected adversely by Radio wave transmission.

CAUTION: Be careful not to apply any shock to the Closed Loop Emission Control System components such as the Mass Air Flow Sensor, Crankshaft Position Sensor and Engine Control Module (ECM). Component parts of the system are precisely set. Even a slight distortion or dent will seriously affect performance.

CAUTION: The Fuel Pump must not be operated without Fuel since Fuel lubricates the Pump. Otherwise, noise or other serious problems such as parts seizure will result. It is also prohibited to use Fuel other than gasoline.
