Driver Air Bag
1. Remove driver air bag unit as outlined under Driver Air Bag Unit, Replace.2. Connect SRS deployment harness No. J-41434, or equivalent's plug leads together, then connect appropriate adapter to deployment harness.
3. Place driver air bag, with cover side facing upward, in a clear, well ventilated location, free of flammable objects. The area should be clear for at least six feet in all directions. An outdoor location with no strong winds or breezes is recommended.
4. Stretch deployment harness from air bag unit outward to its full length.
5. Position a fully charged 12 volt battery near end of harness opposite air bag unit. Do not connect battery to deployment harness at this time.
6. Connect deployment harness to air bag unit electrical connector. Ensure air bag unit is positioned with cover side facing upward.
7. Ensure no people, animals or objects are in area of air bag unit.
8. Separate the two deployment harness plug leads.
9. To deploy air bag module, contact one plug lead to battery positive terminal and the other lead to the negative terminal. The module may jump approximately one foot in the air when deployed. When deploying air bag, ensure area is clear. No poisonous gas is produced upon deployment. However, do not inhale gas since it could irritate throat and can cause choking. Allow the air bag components to cool for at least 10 minutes after deployment. Do not attempt to disassemble module; it cannot be reused. If air bag unit did not deploy, consult Isuzu for disposal procedures.
