Passenger Air Bag
1. Remove passenger air bag unit as outlined under Passenger Air Bag Unit, Replace.2. Connect SRS deployment harness No. J-41434, or equivalent's plug leads together, then connect appropriate adapter to deployment harness.
3. Position air bag deployment adapter tool No. J-41497, or equivalent, in a suitable vise. Area should be clear for at least six feet in all directions, well ventilated and free of flammable objects.
4. Mount air bag module to the deployment adapter. Ensure air bag is positioned in adapter so that it will deploy upward.
5. Ensure air bag unit is securely mounted to adapter and that adapter is securely mounted to vise.
6. Stretch deployment harness from air bag unit outward to its full length.
7. Position a fully charged 12 volt battery near end of harness opposite air bag unit. Do not connect battery to deployment harness at this time.
8. Connect deployment harness to air bag unit electrical connector.
9. Ensure no people, animals or objects are in area of air bag unit.
10. Separate the two deployment harness plug leads.
11. To deploy air bag module, contact one plug lead to battery positive terminal and the other lead to the negative terminal. The module may jump approximately one foot in the air when deployed. When deploying, ensure area is clear. No poisonous gas is produced upon deployment. However, do not inhale gas since it could irritate throat and can cause choking. Allow the components to cool for at least ten minutes after air bag deployment. Do not attempt to disassemble module; it cannot be reused. If air bag unit did not deploy, consult Isuzu for disposal procedures.
