SERVICE INFORMATION

Condition:
On some affected vehicles, the brush/grille guard could separate from its mounting on the vehicle bumper. If this occurs while the vehicle is in motion, the entire brush/grille guard could gradually tilt forward.

Possible Cause:
Analysis indicates that this condition is caused by the brush/grille guard mounting hardware bending/cutting the bumper metal around the license plate mounting holes where the brush/grille guard attaches to the bumper. If the bumper metal is weakened sufficiently, the brush/grille guard mounting hardware could separate from the bumper.

Correction:
To prevent the problem from occuring, dealers will install a grille guard bumper reinforcement kit (Part No. 2-90169-531-0) to the front bumper of all affected vehicles. The reinforcement plates contained in the kit provide added support for the bumper metal around the license plate mounting holes.

IMPORTANT!
This reinforcement kit is designed exclusively for the Isuzu brush/grille guard accessory (MPDN Part No. 2-90169-530-0 or 2-90169-430-0). It is not intended for use on other Isuzu brush/grille guards or aftermarket versions. Before performing the service procedure described in this Campaign Bulletin, visually inspect the vehicle's brush/grille guard to ensure that it is the correct type for this campaign. The correct Isuzu brush/grille guard accessory attaches to the vehicle bumper with two 3/8-inch diameter flange bolts and has side plates that are of single-piece construction.

DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

Isuzu dealers are required to service all eligible vehicles at no charge to the owner, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is in a dealer's vehicle inventory, or arrives at a dealership for service, the dealer must take the necessary steps to ensure that this campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

Each Isuzu dealer will be supplied a copy of the AIMI Campaign Report (AWS 123-1A) listing affected vehicles with port-installed accessories assigned to that dealership. The report contains VIN and detailed owner information obtained from state motor vehicle registration records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, dealers are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. If none of the affected vehicles are assigned to a dealership, no campaign report will be sent.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

American Isuzu Motors Inc. will send a notification letter to owners of affected vehicles with port-installed brush/grille guards already retailed (see enclosed copy). Dealers should follow up with owners of vehicles that have dealer-installed brush/grille guards, by sending a Campaign Reminder Notice (AIMI SVCF-1052). The AIMI Campaign Report AWS 123-1A will contain only owner information for port-installed brush/grille guards. These postcards can be obtained from any regional office.

PARTS INFORMATION

A minimal quantity of parts listed below will be shipped automatically to each dealer, depending on the number of vehicles assigned to the dealership. These parts are available through the American Isuzu Parts Distribution Network (AIPDN).

Dealers are instructed to return all brush/grille kits in their inventory to MPDN. Returned kits will be repackaged with the grille/guard bumper reinforcement kit and made available for sale. Refer to Parts Bulletin AIPDN-PTF-LV15-96 for details.
