Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.2. Mark hood hinge to hood for alignment during installation, then remove hood.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove engine cooling fan.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly.
5. Remove console assembly, then the gear shift knob. Place gear shift lever in neutral position.
6. Remove gearshift lever grommet and dust cover.
7. Remove four gearshift lever retaining bolts.
8. Disconnect hydraulic clutch line from clutch master cylinder.
9. Install rear engine support brace, then attach brace cable to rear engine lifting hangar.
10. Raise and support vehicle.
11. Remove four undercover retaining bolts, then the undercover.
12. Remove four suspension crossmember retaining bolts and nuts.
13. Disconnect electrical connections from starter motor, then remove starter motor.
14. Disconnect driveshaft from differential, then remove midship bearing retaining bolts. Slide shaft out of transmission extension housing.
15. Remove exhaust pipes from engine-to-catalytic converter.
16. Disconnect reverse and neutral switch connectors.
17. Disconnect speedometer cable connector from transmission.
18. Disconnect hydraulic clutch line from slave cylinder, then remove slave cylinder from transmission case.
19. Remove flywheel inspection cover.
20. Install engine support brace, if not done previously. Remove two rear engine mounting bolts from rubber engine isolators.
21. Remove eight center crossmember mounting bolts.
22. Support transmission with transmission jack, then remove transmission retaining bolts.
23. Lower transmission from vehicle.
24. Reverse procedure to install.
