Windows: Description and Operation

The circuit breaker CB-27 applies battery voltage at all times to the power window relay contacts. With the starter switch ON, battery voltage is applied through fuse CB-15 to the power window relay coil. The relay energizes and provides battery voltage from the circuit breaker to all the power window switches.

Left Front Window
When you move the left front power window switch to UP or DOWN, a signal is sent to the control unit (built into the switch). The control unit then provides power to the left front window motor, driving the window in the direction you selected. The control unit removes power to the motor when you release the switch or when the window reaches its fully open or closed position.

Auto Down
When you move the left front door power window switch all the way down to AUTO, a signal is sent to the control unit (built into the switch). The control unit then provides power to the left front window motor, driving the window down. The control unit removes power to the motor when the window reaches the fully open position.

Passenger's Window
You can open and close any window from the master switch on the left front door or from the respective door window switch. The passenger's door window switches can only be operated when the lock switch in the left front window switch is in the OFF position.

When you move a passenger's power window switch to UP or DOWN a signal is sent to the control unit (built into the respective switch). The control unit then provides power to the respective window motor, driving the window in the direction selected. The control unit removes power to the motor when you release the switch or when the window reaches its fully open or closed position.

When a passenger's power window is being controlled by the left front window switch, the control unit in that switch sends a multiplexed signal to the control units in the other window switches. The signal tells the appropriate control unit to provide power to its window motor, driving the window in the direction selected. The control unit removes power to the motor when the switch is released or when the window reaches its fully open or closed position. Since the signal is multiplexed, more than one passenger window can be controlled by the left front window switch simultaneously.
