Service Information
Condition:The voltage regulator, which controls the amount of voltage in the electrical system, may contain manufacturing errors in an integrated circuit. This may cause excessive electrical charging of the alternator (overcharge), resulting in engine control malfunction, and/or in the worst case, eventual engine stall.
Possible Cause:
A faulty IC regulator in the alternator.
Correction:
To prevent this condition from occuring, Isuzu dealers will replace the existing IC regulator in the alternator with a new IC regulator (Part No. 8-97176-917-0). The new IC regulator can be identified by a yellow dot painted on the outside of the electrical harness connector housing (Figure 1). When repairs are completed, dealers will conduct a performance check to verify proper functioning of the charging indicator light and proper battery voltage output.
