Installation
TOOLS REQUIREDJ 36660 Torque Angle Meter, or equivalent.
PROCEDURE
1. Install the cylinder head gasket to the block.
2. Use a socket to push the cylinder head gasket over the rear dowel pin.
NOTE: Install the cylinder head gasket with the words "THIS SIDE UP" showing.
3. Carefully guide the cylinder head into place over the dowel pins. This operation may require an assistant.
4. Install the cylinder head bolts by hand.
5. Use the following sequence in order to tighten the cylinder head bolts:
a. Tighten bolt 1 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
b. Tighten bolt 2 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
c. Tighten bolt 3 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
d. Tighten bolt 4 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
e. Tighten bolt 5 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
f. Tighten bolt 6 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
g. Tighten bolt 7 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
h. Tighten bolt 8 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
i. Tighten bolt 9 to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
j. Tighten bolt 10 (stud bolt) to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
k. Use J36660 to tighten all the cylinder head bolts an additional 90 degrees in sequence.
6. Install the valve rocker arms and the pushrods.
7. Install the intake manifold.
8. Install the A/C compressor and power steering pump mounting bracket.
9. Install the upper thermostat housing to the cylinder head.
10. Install the heater hose to the thermostat housing.
11. Install the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
12. Install the power steering pump to the mounting bracket.
13. Install the A/C compressor to the mounting bracket.
14. Install the generator. Refer to Starting and Charging.
15. Install the engine cooling fan pulley.
16. Install the engine cooling fan.
17. Install the accessory drive belt.
18. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust System.
19. Raise the vehicle.
20. Install the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
21. Lower the vehicle.
22. Install the air cleaner assembly.
23. Fill the cooling system.
24. Connect the negative battery cable.
