Lower Intermediate Shaft
1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's front wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the key. Note the relationship of the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft and the lower intermediate shaft to the steering gear input shaft to ensure proper installation.
3. Remove the shield from the lower intermediate shaft.
4. Take off the bolt that retains the rag joint to the steering gear input shaft.
5. Remove the lower intermediate shaft from the vehicle by sliding the shaft rearward to remove the rag joint from the steering gear input shaft, then slide the shaft forward to remove it from the upper intermediate shaft.
6. Attach the new lower intermediate shaft to the vehicle by sliding the shaft rearward to install it to the upper intermediate shaft, then slide the shaft forward to install the rag joint to the steering gear input shaft.
7. Attach the bolt that retains the rag joint to the steering gear input shaft and tighten it to 35 Nm (25 ft lbs.).
8. Attach the shield to the lower intermediate shaft.
