ABS - Programming the Controller Unit

1997-98 HOMBRE (TH) PROGRAMMING THE ABS CONTROLLER AFTER UNIT REPLACEMENT OR CHANGING TIRE/WHEEL SIZE

1997-98 Hombre (TH) models.
SERVICE INFORMATION
The electronic brake control module of the four-wheel antilock brake system must be reprogrammed under the following conditions.
- The control module was replaced.
- Tire diameter has changed altering the speedometer/odometer calibration
The 1998 Hombre (TH) Workshop Manual Volume 2 under Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement section, the installation procedure STEP # 7 directs the technician to "Revise the tire calibration using the Scan Tool". Follow the procedure outlined below when reprogramming the electronic brake control module using the TECH 2 scan tool.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Connect the TECH 2 to the vehicle and turn the unit on.
2. Turn the vehicle ignition to the "ON" position.
3. From the main menu of the TECH 2, go to FO - "Diagnostics".
4. Select the year of the vehicle.
5. From the "System Selection" menu press F2 - "Chassis".
6. Select the Vehicle Identification - "TH".
7. At the "Application" menu, select FO - "4WAL".
8. At the next "Application" menu, select F2 - "Special functions".
9. From the next "Application" menu, select F1 - "Tire size calibration".
10. From the "Vehicle Type" menu, select F1 - "S/T/M/L" for Hombre.
11. From the "Tire size calibration" menu, select F1 - "New tire size".
12. The TECH 2 will then display a list of tire and wheel size combinations and the technician must scroll to the proper selection for the vehicle and press "Enter". Then, follow instructions given on the TECH 2 screen.
13. Calibration is complete.
14. Read the new calibration and confirm.
15. Exit Tech 2, turn the unit off and disconnect from the vehicle.
