Multi Function Alarm Warning System
Some models use an audio alarm system to remind the driver to fasten the seat belts, remove the ignition key, and turn off the headlamps. This system uses an alarm module that sounds three to five times and activates a warning lamp on the instrument cluster when the ignition switch is turned to the "RUN" position and the driver's seat belt is not buckled. If the ignition switch is turned "OFF" and the headlamps are "ON," the module will sound (chime) to remind the driver to turn off the headlamps. The alarm module will also sound if the driver's door is opened and the key is left in the ignition switch. If the instrument panel lamp dimmer thumb wheel is turned to the "OFF" position and the headlamps are "ON," the alarm module will not sound if the ignition switch is turned to the "OFF" position. The alarm module mounts to the convenience center.
The power distribution center is located at the right side of the steering column as a part of the instrument panel harness assembly. The hazard flasher, turn signal flasher, and alarm module mount to the power distribution center.
The relay center is located behind the glove box and is part of the instrument panel harness assembly. The DRL relay, horn relay, and the fuel pump relay mount to the relay center. The fog lamp relay attaches to the side of the relay center. Access to these relays is through the front of the glove box.
The seat belt warning system switch is located in the seat belt buckle and provides ground when the buckle is not joined with the other part of the belt. Without the belt being buckled, the retractor switch is closed and the alarm module is activated when the ignition switch is in the "RUN" position.
The headlamp-on warning circuit activates when the headlamps are "ON" and the ignition switch is in the "OFF," "LOCK," or "ACC" positions. The multifunction alarm module senses voltage from the instrument panel dimmer switch and activates an audio alarm.
