SERVICE INFORMATION
Condition:
The front brake pipe may contact the left front corner of the engine oil pan. This front brake pipe supplies brake fluid from the ABS unit to the right front brake. Contact could cause the front brake pipe to wear to the point of brake fluid loss when the brakes are applied. If this occurs brake fluid loss could reduce braking effectiveness and increase stopping distances. Partial loss of braking at a time when minimum stopping distance is required could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.
Possible Cause:
Insufficient clearance between the front brake pipe and the left front corner of the engine oil pan.
Correction:
To prevent this condition from occurring Isuzu dealers will measure the clearance between the front brake pipe and the left front corner of the engine oil pan. The measured clearance must be greater than 6 mm.
^ If the front brake pipe clearance measures greater than 6 mm, no further action is required.
^ If the front brake pipe clearance measures 6 mm or less, dealers will inspect the front brake pipe for wear/ damage caused from contact with the left front corner of the engine oil pan.
^ If there is no evidence of wear/damage, dealers will install an additional brake pipe retaining clip supplied from the Front Brake Pipe Assembly Kit (Part No. 8-88880-009-0).
^ If there is evidence of wear/damage, dealers will first replace the front brake pipe with a new one supplied from the Front Brake Pipe Assembly Kit; then, will install the additional brake pipe retaining clip supplied from the kit.
This Campaign Bulletin describes the procedure to inspect the front brake pipe; then, to either install an additional brake retaining pipe clip, or to replace the front brake pipe and install the additional brake pipe retaining clip afterwards.
DEALER RESPONSIBILITY
Isuzu dealers are required to service all affected vehicles at no charge to the owner, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is in a dealer's vehicle inventory, or arrives at a dealership for service, the dealer must take the necessary steps to ensure that this campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
Each Isuzu dealer will be supplied a copy of the AIMI Campaign Report (AWS 123-1A) listing affected vehicles between the specified VIN range in dealer inventory and retailed status. All unsold new vehicles in dealer's possession and subject to this campaign must be held and repaired per the service procedure in this Campaign Bulletin before customers take possession of their vehicles. The report contains VIN and detailed owner information obtained from state motor vehicle registration records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, dealers are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. If none of the affected vehicles are assigned to a dealership, no campaign report will be sent.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
American Isuzu Motors Inc. (AIMI) will send a notification letter to owners of affected vehicles already retailed (see enclosed copy). Dealers should follow up with vehicle owners by sending a Campaign Reminder Notice (AIMI SVCF-1052) to all vehicle owners listed in the AIMI Campaign Report AWS 123-1A. Dealers may obtain these postcards from their Regional Office.
