Ignition Timing: Testing and Inspection
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations, precautions, and procedures in the SRS section before performing repairs or service.1. Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with no load (shift lever in [N] or [P]) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
Ignition Timing Inspection And Setting:
2. Remove the service check connector from the connector holder.
3. Connect the special tool to the service check connector.
4. Check the idle speed.

5. Connect a timing light to the No. 1 ignition wire. Point the light toward the pointer on the timing belt cover.

6. Adjust ignition timing, if necessary, to the following specifications:
Ignition Timing:
15° ± 2° BTDC (RED) at 700 ± 50 rpm with shift lever in [N] or [P], and electrical systems turned off.
Ignition Timing Inspection And Setting:
7. To adjust ignition timing, loosen the distributor mounting bolts, and turn the distributor ignition (DI) housing counterclockwise to advance the timing, or clockwise to retard the timing.
8. Tighten the adjusting bolts, and recheck the timing.
9. Disconnect the special tool from the service check connector.
