Parking Brake System: Description and Operation
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONParking brake is applied by pulling a parking brake handle straight back toward the driver. A ratchet-type locking device holds the lever in the applied position until released. The lever transfers the force of its movement to the wheels through a system of cables and levers. These pieces are designed to provide a mechanical advantage that will apply the brakes hard enough to hold the car in place on inclines. A switch lights the brake system warning light when the parking brake is applied and the key is the "ON" position.
