1998 ISUZU AMIGO SOFT TOP LOWERING: REMOVING THE SOFT WINDOWS
BEFORE LOWERING THE SOFT-TOP
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1998 Amigo (UA) models equipped with the standard folding soft-top.
This service bulletin gives important precautions and procedures to take while lowering the factory soft-top. It is important that the "ZIP-OUT" side and rear windows are removed before the soft-top is folded. Currently, many soft-tops are being lowered without the prior removal of the side and rear windows from the soft-top. Consequently, there have been many non-warrantable cases pertaining to the original "ZIP-OUT" side windows being damaged.
NOTE
Use this bulletin as an addendum to the Chapter 4 Interior Features. Refer to pages 4-24 and 4-25 of the "Owner's Manual" for additional instructions and cautions.
LOWERING THE SOFT-TOP
IMPORTANT!
None of the following procedures require any excessive force. Determine the cause of any obstructions rather than using unnecessary force to overcome it. Damage incurred as a result of mishandling is not covered under warranty.
1. Release the two front latches at the roof panel. This will facilitate the following steps by relieving the tension of the soft-top (See Figure 1)
^ Do not lower the top at this time.
2. Remove the two "ZIP-OUT" side windows.
a. Disengage the Velcro fasteners strips around the window frame.
b. For each of the side windows, locate the pull tag of the zipper at the bottom rear corner of the window and completely unzip it to the top front corner. Do the same with the front zipper, located at the front edge of the window.
c. Disengage the lower plastic locking strip of each side window by pulling out the edge.
d. Release the terminating joints at each zipper and pull out the window as shown.
^ Take special precautions so that the zipper seams do not become damaged.
^ Drivers side: Figure 2. Note the unique removal pattern of each zipper.
^ Passenger's side: Figure 3. Note the unique removal pattern of each zipper.
e. Place each window flat in the provided storage bag.
3. Remove the rear window.
a. Disengage all the Velcro fasteners strips.
b. Locate the zipper tab at the bottom right corner of the rear window and completely unzip the window from the folding top.
^ The terminating joint of the zipper is released by gently pulling the window side upwards. (See Figure 4)
c. Open the tailgate and gently pull back the window-retaining bar to release it from the mounting brackets at the tailgate posts. (See Figure 5)
d. Slide the window out of the channel in the retaining bar and refit the window-retaining bar to the mounting brackets at the tailgate posts.
e. Roll up the window, and store it inside the pocket on the tailgate.
f. Close the tailgate.
4. Slowly fold the soft-top toward the rear of the vehicle to its lowered position. (See Figure 6)
^ As it is lowered, "fold in"the top between the support ribs for less wrinkling and better appearance.
5. Secure the frame of the folded soft-top with the hold-down strap.
a. Locate the stored hold-down strap that is partially covered by the folded top at the left-rear corner of the vehicle. (See Figure 7)
b. Loosen the strap fully, then loop the strap as shown. (See Figure 8)
c. Push the flat tab in between the top and the frame rails. Pull excess slack from the plastic buckle to prevent free play. (See Figure 8)
6. Re-close the two front latches at the roof panel.
