Upper Column Housing Components

UPPER COLUMN HOUSING COMPONENTS
SHAFT LOCK SHIELD ASSEMBLY
TURN SIGNAL CANCEL CAM ASSEMBLY
UPPER BEARING SPRING
THRUST WASHER

Tools Required: J 23653 Lock Plate Compressor.

Standard Steering Column:

Remove or Disconnect
1. Do steps 1 through 7, "Remove or Disconnect", COIL ASSEMBLY, SRS Coil Assembly
- Let coil assembly (2) hang freely.

Removing Shaft Lock Retaining Ring:

2. Shaft lock retaining ring (4) using J 23653 to push down shaft lock shield assembly (5).
- Dispose of ring (4).

Removing Upper Shaft Components:

3. Shaft lock shield assembly (5).
4. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (6).
5. Upper bearing spring (7).
6. Thrust washer (8).

Install or Connect

NOTICE: Refer to the fastener precautions NOTICE. Technician Safety Information Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunction of steering column.

1. Thrust washer (8).
2. Upper bearing spring (7).
3. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (6).
- Lubricate lower brass surface with grease, synthetic (service kit).

4. Shaft lock shield assembly (5).
- Align inner block tooth of lock plate to block tooth of steering shaft assembly (32).

5. New shaft lock retaining ring (4) using J 23653 to push down shaft lock shield assembly (5).
- Ring (4) must be firmly seated in groove on shaft.

6. Do steps 1 through 4 and 7 through 10, "Install or Connect", COIL ASSEMBLY, SRS Coil Assembly
