Inflator Module Replacement

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT


1. Battery negative cable.

CAUTION: Before removing or installing any electrical unit or when a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with "live" exposed electrical terminals, disconnect the negative battery cable to help prevent personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or components. Unless instructed otherwise, the ignition switch must be in the "OFF" or "LOCK" position.

2. Disable the SRS. Refer to Disabling the SRS.

Steering Wheel Positioning:




3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position to unlock the steering wheel and turn the steering wheel 90 degrees from the straight-ahead position in order to gain access to the access holes behind the steering wheel.

Releasing SRS Inflater Module Leaf Springs:




4. Insert a screwdriver into each access hole and push the leaf spring to release the pin that retains the inflator module.
5. Turn the steering wheel 180 degrees to gain access to the remaining access holes.
6. Insert a screwdriver into each access hole and push the leaf spring to release the pin that retains the inflator module.

Inflater Module Electrical Connections:




7. Tilt the top of the inflator module rearward to gain access to the SRS wiring.
8. SRS lead wire from the clip on the inflator module.
9. SRS lead wire from the clip on the steering wheel.
10. Connector position assurance (CPA) retainer and electrical connector.
11. Remove the inflator module from the vehicle.

CAUTION: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:
- Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module.
- Make sure the bag opening points away from you.
When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Electrical connector and CPA retainer.
2. SRS lead wire to the clip on the steering wheel.
3. SRS lead wire to the clip on the inflator module.
4. Inflator module by pressing it firmly onto the steering wheel to engage and latch the leaf springs on the four notched pins.
- Make sure that the SRS wires do not get pinched during installation of the inflator module.
5. Enable the SRS. Refer to Enabling the SRS.
6. Battery negative cable.
