Fuel Gauge - Inaccuracy
BULLETIN NUMBER:S899-02-SOO1
ISSUE DATE:
SEPTEMBER 1999
GROUP:
FUEL SYSTEM
1998-99 HOMBRE (TH) V6 FUEL GAUGE INACCURACY
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Some 1998-99 Hombre (TH) 4.3LV6 models with following VIN:
^ 1998 VIN range: W8668201 to
W8670669 (with RPO ZN4)
^ 1999 VIN range: X8650007 to
X8650733
Condition:
Some owners may comment on incorrect fuel gauge readings. The fuel gauge may read empty (E) with approximately 1/3 of a tank of fuel remaining, or the fuel gauge rarely reaches the full (F) mark when the fuel tank is filled.
Correction:
Reprogram the vehicle control module (VCM) with the revised Fuel System Calibration. The appropriate calibrations are available on Isuzu Technical Communication System (ITCS) CD # 15.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Connect Tech2 to the VCM.
2. Request info through the Service Programming System (SPS) and note the 6th number. If the 6th number is 09374032, do not proceed.
3. Using ITCS CD # 15, scroll down to Calibration Selection Chart.
4. In that section, find the appropriate calibration application chart of the Hombre (TH), based on the following vehicle equipment options:
^ Transmission
^ Tire Size
^ Suspension Package
^ Emission
^ A/C
^ ZN4
^ Air Pump
5. Find the Service Calibration Part # found in the "Cal Class" column as a "Service" calibration in the calibration selection chart.
IMPORTANT
To correct the fuel gauge inaccuracy condition, the service calibration part number must contain the new fuel system software calibration number 09374032 (from the listed groups of 8-digit numbers found in the "Software Calibration Numbers"column). (Figure 1)

1. Reprogram the VCM using the new Service Calibration. Refer to published procedure for reprogramming with the new calibration using the Tech 2 scan tool and ITCS system. This procedure can be found in the "Service Programming Instructions" section of ITCS CD # 15 or later.
