INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) INSULATOR PANEL RATTLE

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1998 Hombre (TH); Built prior to the Following VIN Breakpoint W8659878.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Condition:

Some owners, with vehicles built prior to the above VIN Breakpoint, may comment about a rattling noise coming from the Instrument Panel (I/P) dash area.

Possible Cause:

On early 1998 built vehicles, the screw that secures the left and center insulator panels together, underneath the I/P on the driver's side, may pull the one push/insert nut out of the center insulator panel. This occurs because there may be a gap between the mating surfaces of the two panels that hold the push/insert nut in place.

Correction:

Rotate the push/insert nuts 90 degrees to a horizontal position.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove bottom insulator panel, screws. (Figure 1 & 2)

2. Remove driver-side center Instrument Panel (I/P) screws. (Figure 3 & 4)

3. By removing the two panels, the push/insert nut will be exposed. (Figure 5)

4. Apply pressure on the backside of the push/insert nut with your fingers and carefully pry the push/insert nut with a screwdriver. (Figure 6)

5. Rotate push/insert nut 90 degrees to a horizontal position and return push/insert nut. (Figure 7)

6. Install instrument panel and screws.
