Reassembly

WARNING:
- Never use an air hose or dry brush to clean brake assemblies.
- Use an OSHA-approved vacuum cleaner to avoid breathing brake dust.
- Contaminated brake discs or pads reduce stopping ability.
- When reusing the pads, always reinstall the brake pads in their original positions to prevent loss of braking efficiency.

CAUTION:

- Do not spill brake fluid on the vehicle; it may damage the paint; if brake fluid does contact the paint, wash it off immediately with water.
- Clean all parts in brake fluid and air dry; blow out all passages with compressed air.
- Before reassembling, check that all parts are free of dust and other foreign particles.
- Replace parts with new ones whenever specified to do so.
- Make sure no dirt or other foreign matter is allowed to contaminate the brake fluid.
- Always use Genuine Honda DOT 3 Brake Fluid. Using a non-Honda brake fluid can cause corrosion and decrease the life of the system.
- Replace all rubber carts with new ones whenever disassembled.

1. Clean the piston and caliper bore with brake fluid, and inspect for wear and damage.

Piston Boot & Seal Replacement:

2. Coat a new piston seal with the recommended rubber grease in the caliper seal set, and install the seal in the cylinder groove.
3. Apply the recommended seal grease in the caliper seal set to the sealing lips and inside of a new piston boot, and install it in the caliper.

CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the caliper cylinder wall.

Installing Piston:

4. Lubricate the caliper and piston with clean brake fluid, then install the piston in the cylinder with the dished end facing in.

Removing Pad Spring:

5. Install the pad spring on the caliper.

Caliper Pins And Boot:

6. Apply the recommended seal grease in the caliper seal set to the sliding surface of the pins and the inside of the new pin boots.
7. Install the pin boots into the grooves in the caliper bracket properly.
8. Insert pin A and pin B into the caliper bracket.
9. Install the pin boots into the grooves in the pins properly.
10. Install the brake pads in their original positions.
11. Push in the piston so that: the caliper will fit over the pads, and install the caliper.

Installing Caliper:

12. Tighten the caliper bolts.
13. Connect the brake hose to the caliper with new sealing washers, and tighten the banjo bolt.
14. Fill the brake reservoir and bleed the brake system.
15. After installation, check for leaks at hose and line joints or connections, and retighten if necessary.
