Backup Lamp: Testing and Inspection
NOTE: Before testing, check the No. 1 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.1. Check whether the back-up lights go on by turning the ignition switch ON (II) and shifting the shift lever to [R].
- If the back-up lights do not go on, check for:
- blown bulb.
- faulty A/T reverse relay.
- faulty diode.
- poor ground (G401, G402, G404, G502, G504, G5511.
- an open in the wire.
- If the back-up lights go on, go to step 2.
2. With the shift lever in position [R], turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. Disconnect the 10P connector from the A/T gear position switch.
4. Check for continuity between the No. 3 and No. 9 terminals with the shift lever in position [R].
- If there is continuity, go to step 5.
- If there is no continuity, replace the A/,T gear position switch.
5. Move the shift lever up and down at the [R] position, and check for continuity between the No. 3 and No. 9 terminals within the range of free play of the shift lever.
If there is no continuity, adjust the A/T gear position switch.
