1998 RODEO (UE) ACCESSORY SIDE STEP ANTI-SKID STRIP REPLACEMENT
AFFECTED VEHICLES
All 1998 Rodeo (UE) 4WD models equipped with accessory side steps.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Some affected vehicles may experience edge peeling of the left and/or right anti-skid strip applied to the top of the accessory side step. This adhesive-backed strip ensures each accessory side step provides a convenient, non-skid surface when used for entering and exiting the vehicle, or for accessing the roof. The cause of this edge peeling may be due to inadequate bonding of the adhesive material to the accessory side step's painted surface.
To repair this condition, replace the accessory side step anti-skid strips (both left and right sides), with new, improved accessory side step anti-skid strips (Part No. 2-90313-816-0) currently available from the American Isuzu Parts Distribution Network (AIPDN). Follow the installation instructions packaged with the parts. For convenient reference, a copy of the installation instructions is included with this Service Bulletin.
IMPORTANT!
The adhesive material used in the new accessory side step anti-skid strips requires 72 hours to fully the cure time of installation. Be sure to advise your customer at vehicle pickup to avoid using the side step during this 72 hour curing period.

BILL OF MATERIALS
TOOLS REQUIRED:
^ CLEAN LINT FREE WIPING CLOTHS
(not reprocessed rags)
^ HARD RUBBER ROLLER
^ 3M ADHESIVE CLEANER
PROCEDURE
APPLICATION TEMPERATURE
1. Both the side step and the adhesive strip [1] must be between 60° and 111°F. Avoid extreme temperatures and moisture. If the temperatures are less than this, both the side step and adhesive strip [1] can be heated with heat lamps or heat guns. Warmer surfaces are desirable for proper wet-out of the adhesive.
SIDE STEP SURFACE PREPARATION
1. The installation area must be clean. Airborn dust, oils, etc., may contaminate the bonding surface. The side step should be clean and dry. The side step application surface should then be washed with 3M adhesive cleaner after removal of the existing adhesive strip.
^ Use clean lint-free wiping cloths or disposable wipes and change them when visually soiled.
^ Reprocessed rags should not be used as they may contain waxes and or residual contaminants.
^ Care should be taken that the cleaning cloths do not rub or touch tires or any other surfaces that might contaminate the side step application surface.
^ There should not be any operations after the cleaning procedure that could contaminate the surface.
2. Allow 72 hours for the adhesive to cure before using the side step.
ADHESIVE STRIP APPLICATION
CAUTION!
DO NOT remove the adhesive tape liner from the adhesive Strip [1] until you are ready to stick it in place. Doing so risks contaminating the adhesive tape surface. Common sources of contaminants include oil from the installer's hands, dust or lint from clothing, and dirt or dust from workbenches and floors. Once the liner is removed, never touch the adhesive surface. Contaminated adhesive strips should never be installed.
1. Remove the existing adhesive strip by lifting the corner and peeling the adhesive strip from the side step.
2. Starting with one end, carefully peel back approximately 4" of the adhesive tape liner from one end of the adhesive strip [1] and align with the side step. Press firmly into position.
3. Using caution not to contaminate the adhesive tape liner, remove the remaining adhesive tape liner from the adhesive strip [1]. Pull on the opposite end of the adhesive strip [1] and press into position using the template as a guide for left and right alignment.
4. Using a hard rubber roller, firmly press the adhesive strip [1] to the surface of the side step.
