SERVICE INFORMATION
Some affected vehicles may experience a whining noise coming from the speakers when the cassette player is in use. This whining noise increases in volume as engine speed is increased. This condition may be due to electromagnetic interference resulting from the instrument panel harness being in close proximity to the radio assembly.
To repair this condition, install an adhesive-backed radio noise suppression plate (Part No. 8-97202-291-0) to the top surface of the radio assembly, using the procedure described in this Service Bulletin.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the radio assembly from the vehicle in accordance with page 8C-5 of the 1998 Rodeo (UE) Workshop Manual (UE098-WSM-L01).
2. Peel the backing from the radio noise suppression plate (Part No. 8-97202-291-0) and carefully position it adhesive side down over the top surface of the radio assembly (figure 1).
3. Press down firmly on the radio noise suppression plate to secure it to the radio assembly.
4. Reinstall the radio assembly into the vehicle in accordance with page 8C-5 of the Workshop Manual.
