BODY
1998 RODEO (UE) DOOR MIRROR SEALING PATCH REPLACEMENT
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1998 Rodeo (UE) models before VIN 9W4308559.
SERVICE INFORMATION
On some affected vehicles, the sealing patches covering the three mounting holes on the underside of each door mirror may be peeling and/or missing. If these sealing patches are peeling and/or missing, wind noise will be generated from the area of the door mirror when the vehicle is being driven.
Vehicles before VIN 9W4308559 have 18 mm diameter sealing patches factory installed. All 18 mm diameter sealing patches should be replaced with new, larger 21 mm diameter sealing patches (Part No. 8-97808-119-1) at Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) or when replacement of missing or damaged sealing patches is required. This Service Bulletin provides detailed instructions for replacing the door mirror sealing patches.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
REMOVAL
Door Mirror Sealing Patch (Driver Side/Passenger Side)
^ Remove existing door mirror sealing patches from each of three mounting holes located on underside of door mirror (Figure 1).
^ Clean area around each mounting hole with isopropyl alcohol to remove any residual adhesive and/or dirt. Wait at least 15 seconds for all cleaned areas to dry before continuing with this procedure.
INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT!
The new door mirror sealing patches used for this repair have a "crack and peel" paper backing. This paper backing helps keep the adhesive surface of the sealing patch free of fingerprints during installation to ensure optimum bonding of the sealing patch to its door mirror mounting hole surface. For best results, carefully follow the instructions below.
Door Mirror Sealing Patch
(Driver-Side/Passenger-Side)
^ Place a new door mirror sealing patch (Part No. 8-97808-119-1) between thumb and index finger, with paper backing side facing upward and paper backing seam running from left to right. Gently squeeze sealing patch edges to release paper backing halves from sealing patch.
^ Remove one half of paper backing from sealing patch and carefully position sealing patch, adhesive side up, onto door mirror mounting hole surface (Figure 2).
IMPORTANT!
Be careful not to touch any of the exposed adhesive surface with your fingers. Dirt or oil from your fingers could affect adhesive bonding effectiveness.
^ Carefully remove remaining paper backing from sealing patch; then, press sealing patch firmly into place, using a circular motion around outside edges of sealing patch.
IMPORTANT!
Do not press down in the center portion of the sealing patch; there is no support in this area.
^ Repeat above steps for remaining door mirror sealing patches.
