Owner's Letter

DEAR ISUZU RODEO OWNER:

This notice is sent to you. in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Isuzu Motors Limited has determined that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 1998 Rodeo models fitted with optional dealer-installed or vehicle owner-installed rubber floor mats.

WHAT IS THE CONDITION?

If your vehicle is equipped with the genuine Isuzu accessory rubber floor mat set (Figure 1), the driver-side rubber floor mat may shift position causing the lip along the upper right corner of the mat to catch the bottom of the accelerator pedal. If this occurs, the accelerator pedal could wedge between the rubber floor mat and the floor and cause a crash without prior warning.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

To prevent this condition from occurring, remove the entire genuine Isuzu accessory rubber floor mat set (all 4 pieces) from your vehicle immediately, if so equipped, and return the set, along with a copy of your parts purchase invoice or vehicle purchase invoice showing the accessory rubber floor mat set, to the following address:

American Isuzu Motors Inc. - Campaign Coordinator
2300 Pellissier Place
P.O. Box 995
Whittier, CA 90608-0995

or, if you prefer, you may choose to visit your local Isuzu dealer and have them remove and return the set for you.

Whichever method you choose, American Isuzu Motors Inc. will reimburse you for the cost of the genuine Isuzu accessory rubber floor mat set, along with any return shipping costs. Reimbursement checks will be issued within 20 days of approval.

IMPORTANT:
Please be sure to return only the genuine Isuzu accessory rubber floor mat set. If your vehicle is also equipped with the genuine Isuzu carpeted floor mat set (Figure 2), please do not return this carpeted floor mat set. Although this set does have a rubber backing to it, it is not subject to this recall.

Your Isuzu dealer is best equipped to provide service to ensure that your vehicle is corrected as promptly as possible. If you believe that the condition has not been or cannot be remedied without charge within a reasonable time, you may contact the National Owner Relations Department, American Isuzu Motors Inc., P.O. Box 995, Whittier, CA 90608-0995; or call the Isuzu Care Team Line at 1-800-643-4070.

After contacting your Isuzu dealer, the National Office, or the Isuzu Care Team Line, if you are still not satisfied and feel that we have failed or are unable to remedy this condition without charge and within a reasonable time, you may wish to write the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590; or call 1-800-424-9393 (Washington residents can call 366-0123).
