Owner Letter
DEAR ISUZU RODEO OWNER:Through our continuing effort to assure maximum customer satisfaction with our product, American Isuzu Motors Inc. (AIMI) is notifying vehicle owners that the battery may discharge when the rear defogger is in use on certain 1998 Rodeo models.
WHAT IS THE CONDITION?
The battery may discharge when the rear defogger is in continued use along with other electrical components (e.g., air conditioning, headlights, fog lights, windshield wipers, radio, etc.). This condition is caused by the electrical load exceeding the capacity of the alternator, resulting in a gradual discharge of battery voltage.
WHAT WE WILL DO
To prevent this condition from occurring, your Isuzu dealer will replace your vehicle's 60 amp alternator with a new 70 amp type. Your Isuzu dealer will then modify the rear defogger circuit and reprogram your vehicle's powertrain control module (PCM). This service will be performed for you at no charge.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
Please contact your Isuzu dealer to arrange a service date. Your dealer will need a few days notice and the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), as shown in the top left-hand corner of this letter, to coordinate parts delivery and service schedules. Presentation of this letter to your dealer will assist in making the necessary repairs in the shortest possible time. Please ask your Isuzu dealer if you wish to know how much time will be needed to schedule, process, and repair your vehicle. Your Isuzu dealer can refer to Campaign Bulletin SB98-04-L002. To locate the Isuzu dealer nearest you, or if you have any questions regarding this matter, please call the Isuzu Care Team Line at 1-800-643-4070.
Your Isuzu dealer is best equipped to obtain parts and provide service to ensure that your vehicle is corrected as promptly as possible. If you believe that the condition has not been or cannot be remedied without charge within a reasonable time, you may contact the National Owner Relations Department, American Isuzu Motors Inc., P.O. Box 995, Whittier, CA 90608.0995; or call the Isuzu Care Team Line at 1-800-643-4070.
Because of our desire to assure trouble-free operation of your Isuzu vehicle, we appreciate your cooperation in having this correction completed as soon as possible. Until this is accomplished, operation of the rear defogger for more than 10 minutes should be avoided. We are indeed sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, and welcome any comments or suggestions regarding the completion of this repair.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter, thus affording us the opportunity to be of service to you, a valued Isuzu customer.
IMPORTANT:
If you have sold or traded your Isuzu vehicle, please enter the owner's name and address, if known, on the enclosed "Change of Information " postcard and drop it in the mail. Postage has already been paid. We will contact the new owner.
