1998 RODEO (UE) BATTERY DISCHARGE SERVICE CAMPAIGN 9804L2
CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Number 9804L2 has been assigned to this campaign. This number will appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with the campaign.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1998 Rodeo (UE) models, retailed and in dealer inventory, equipped with 3.2L V6 engine from start of production to W4334228.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Condition:
Battery discharges when the rear window defogger is in use. This condition will most likely occur when other electrical components (e.g., air conditioning, headlights, fog lights, windshield wipers, radio, etc.) are also in use.
Possible Cause:
Electrical load exceeding the capacity of the existing 60 amp alternator, resulting in a gradual discharge of battery voltage.
Correction:
To prevent this condition from occurring, Isuzu dealers will replace the existing 60 amp alternator with a new 70 amp alternator (Part No. 8-97130-776-1). Dealers will then modify the rear defogger circuit by installing a Supplemental Generator Campaign Kit (Part No. 2-90000-810-0). Finally, dealers will reprogram the PCM using Isuzu Technical Communication System (ITCS) CD # 10, issued 2/98.
NOTE
Certain vehicles also may be involved in the 1998 Rodeo (UF) Coil-Integrated Module Replacement Service Campaign 9809L2 (Service Bulletin SB98-09-L002, issued 3/98). Be sure to verify which campaigns affect each vehicle.
DEALER RESPONSIBILITY
Isuzu dealers must service all affected vehicles at no charge to the owner, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is in a dealer's vehicle inventory, or arrives at a dealership for service, the dealer must take the necessary steps to ensure that this campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
Each Isuzu dealer will be supplied a copy of the AIMI Campaign Report (AWS 123-1A) listing affected vehicles between the specified VIN range in dealer inventory and. retailed status. All unsold new vehicles in dealer's possession and subject to this campaign must be held and repaired per the service procedure in this Campaign Bulletin before customers take possession of their vehicles. The report contains VIN and detailed owner information obtained from state motor vehicle registration records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, dealers are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. If none of the affected vehicles are assigned to a dealership, no campaign report will be sent.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
American Isuzu Motors Inc. (AIMI) will send a notification letter to owners of affected vehicles already retailed (see enclosed copy). Dealers should follow up with vehicle owners by sending a Campaign Reminder Notice (AIMI SVCF-1052) to all vehicle owners listed in the AIMI Campaign Report AWS 123-1A. Dealers may obtain these postcards from their Regional Office.
