1998 RODEO (UE) COIL-INTEGRATED MODULE REPLACEMENT
REVISED SERVICE CAMPAIGN 9809L2 (PARTS RETURN DISCONTINUED)
(SUPERSEDES SB98-09-L002)
CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Number 9809L2 has been assigned to this campaign. This number will appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with the campaign.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1998 Rodeo (UE) models. Affected vehicles include the following:
^ 4 X 2 models before VIN W4322999.
^ 4 X 4 models before VIN W4323003.
Condition:
While the vehicle is being driven, the ABS indicator light comes on and ABS DTC C0238 (Wheel Speed Error) sets. If this occurs, the ABS becomes inactive during the existing ignition cycle; however, the regular brakes will continue to function normally and the ABS will reactivate once the ignition is cycled on and off again.
Possible Cause:
Software contained in the coil-integrated module of the electronic hydraulic control unit (EHCU).
Correction:
To prevent this condition from occurring, Isuzu dealers will replace the existing coil-integrated module with a new coil-integrated module containing new software (See Parts Information section).
IMPORTANT!
Before replacing the coil-integrated module, first check the part number label located on top of the unit.
^ If the part number label reads 897192547 or 897202400 (4 X 2 models) or 897192546 or 897202398 (4 X 4 models), stop here; the coil-integrated module has already been replaced and no further action is required.
^ If the part number reads 897146207 (4 X 2 models) or 897146206 (4 X 4 models), the coil-integrated module must be replaced with a new one (see Parts Information section). Follow the service procedure in this Campaign Bulletin to replace the coil-integrated module.
DEALER RESPONSIBILITY
Isuzu dealers will service all affected vehicles at no charge to the owner, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is in a dealer's vehicle inventory, or arrives at a dealership for service, the dealer will take the necessary steps to ensure that this campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
Each Isuzu dealer will be supplied a copy of the AIMI Campaign Report (AWS 123-1A) listing affected vehicles between the specified VIN range in dealer inventory and retailed status. All unsold new vehicles in dealer's possession and subject to this campaign will be held and repaired per the service procedure in this Campaign Bulletin before customers take possession of their vehicles. The report contains VIN and detailed owner information obtained from state motor vehicle registration records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, dealers are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. If none of the affected vehicles are assigned to a dealership, no campaign report will be sent.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
American Isuzu Motors Inc. (AIMI) will send a notification letter to owners of affected vehicles already retailed (see enclosed copy). Dealers should follow up with vehicle owners by sending a Campaign Reminder Notice (AIMI SVCF-1052) to all vehicle owners listed in the AIMI Campaign Report AWS 123-1A. Dealers may obtain these postcards from their Regional Office.
APPLYING THE CAMPAIGN LABEL
1. Using a ball-point pen, fill in a campaign label (Part No.2-90028-700-0) with Campaign Number 9809L2, Isuzu dealer code, and repair date (figure 4).
2. Affix the campaign label adjacent to the manufacturer's identification label located on the driver's side B-pillar.
