DTC P1441 EVAP/Fuel Sender Calibration Revised

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1998-1999 Rodeo (UE), Amigo (UA), Trooper (UX) & VehiCROSS (VX) models with V6 engine.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Condition:

All affected vehicles with the P1441 Evaporative Emission Code that has been diagnosed with "no fault found" from the appropriate flow chart in the Driveability and Emissions Manual.

Correction:

After determining that no faults exist for P1441, the affected vehicle may require an updated fuel sender and/or an updated calibration number. Do not replace the entire Fuel Pump and Sender assembly.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Follow the Driveability/Emissions Manual troubleshooting procedure for DTC P1441 (for the year and model vehicle you are repairing). Correct any faults found before continuing with this procedure.

2. Using the TECH 2 scan tool to read the current PCM Calibration Number and Broadcast Code, record the current Calibration Number and Broadcast Code. Refer to the ITCS for the updated evaporative calibration.

a. If the PCM calibration has already been updated, then there is some other fault in the evaporative emissions system causing the DTC P1441.

b. If the PCM calibration has not been updated:

- Go to step 3 for 1998 Rodeo and Amigo or

- Go to step 4 for 1999 Rodeo and Amigo or

- Go to step 5 for 1998-99 Trooper or

- Go to step 6 for 1999 VehiCROSS

3. For 1998 Rodeo (UE) and Amigo (UA) models, compare the PCM calibration recorded in Step 2 to Chart A (these PCM calibrations were provided in SB98-02-L002, Fuel Gauge Inaccuracy.)

Chart A:





A. If the recorded PCM calibration is listed in Chart A, then an updated fuel sender has already been installed. Do not replace the fuel sender. Go to step 7.

B. If the recorded PCM calibration is not listed in Chart A, replace the Fuel Sender with the appropriate updated part number listed under PARTS INFORMATION in this Bulletin. Refer to the Work-shop Manual and/or SB98-02-L002 for replacement procedure. Then go to step 7.

4. For 1999 Rodeo (UE) and Amigo (UA), the updated Fuel Sender has already been installed by the manufacturer. Do not replace the Fuel Sender. Go to step 7.

5. For 1998-99 Trooper (UX) models, replace the Fuel Sender with the appropriate updated part number listed under PARTS INFORMATION in this Bulletin. Refer to the appropriate Workshop Manual for replacement procedure. Then go to step 7.

IMPORTANT: Prior to performing the calibration, disconnect the ABS module when programming the Trooper & VehiCROSS.

6. For 1999 VehiCROSS (VX), refer to chart B for the correct P1441 calibration number. Then refer to the ITCS for the Service Programming Procedure. All SPS procedures are outlined in the ITCS.
