Air Bag Systems: Service and Repair

WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible injury, always connect the protective short connector (RED) to the driver's airbag connector, and disconnect the front passenger's airbag connector (automati cally shorted) before working near any SRS wiring.

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then disconnect the positive cable from the battery, and wait at least three minutes.
3. Disconnect the airbag connectors.

Disconnecting the Airbag Connectors:





Driver's Side:
^ Remove the access panel from the steering wheel, then remove the short connector (RED) from the panel.

^ Disconnect the 3P connector between the driver's airbag and cable reel, then connect the short connector (RED) to the airbag side of the connector.

Front Passenger's Airbag Connectors / SRS Main Harness:





Front Passenger's Side:
^ Remove the dashboard compartment.
^ Disconnect the 2P connector between the front passenger 5 airbag and SRS main harness.

CAUTION: Avoid breaking the connector; it's double- locked.

Wiring Precautions:





1. First lift the connector lid with a thin screwdriver, then press the connector tab down, and pull the connector out.
2. To reinstall the connector, push it into position until it clicks, then close its lid.
