Mud Flap - Rubbing Sound When Turning

SERVICE INFORMATION

Condition:

Some owners may comment on rubbing sound when making a turn.

Possible Cause

When the steering wheel is turned completely to the left or right, some tire and mud flap contact is present.

Correction:

Follow the procedures in the bulletin to trim the existing mud flap.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Park and secure the vehicle.





2. Remove both driver and passenger side front mud flaps. (Figure 1)








3. Use the template and mark the area to be trimmed. (Figure 2)

a. Make copies and cut out the template that was provided in the bulletin.

b. Place the template on top of the mud flap. Make sure that the template is aligned on the mud flap. (Wipe off any dirt that may be on the mud flap)

c. Use a pencil and trace the section to be trimmed.





4. Use a utility knife or equivalent and cut the area to be trimmed. (Figure 3)





5. Reinstall the mud flaps. (Figure 4)

6. Start the engine and turn the wheel completely to the left and inspect if there is tire and mud flap contact. Then turn to the right and inspect if there is tire and mud flap contact.

7. Return the vehicle to the customer.
