Electronic Column Lock Module (Column Shift)Disassembly Procedure
Tools Required
- J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers
1. Remove the upper tilt head components. Refer to T/S Can. Cam, Upper Bearing Inner Race (Column Shift).
2. Remove the steering column lock cylinder set. Refer to On-Vehicle Service; Tilt Column; Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement.
3. Remove the park lock cable assembly (1) from the lock module assembly.
1. Place the steering column lock cylinder set into the off position.
2. Place the shift lever clevis into the park position.
3. Use a small blade to push against the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1).
4. Disconnect the park lock cable assembly (1) from the lock module assembly.
4. Rotate the key alarm connector (1)90 degrees.
5. Pull the key alarm connector (1) out of the lock module assembly (2).
6. Remove the passkey connector from the lock module assembly (2).
7. Slide the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (2) out of the lock module assembly (1).
8. Let the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (2) hang freely.
9. Remove the 3 pan head tapping screws (1) from the lock module assembly (2).
Important: The lock bolt assembly (4) is under slight spring tension from the lock bolt spring (3). Hold the lock bolt (4) in place while removing the lock module assembly (2).
10. Remove the lock module assembly (2) and the lock bolt assembly (4) from the steering column tilt head assembly (5).
11. Remove the lock bolt spring (3) from the lock bolt assembly (4).
Assembly Procedure
Tools Required
- J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers
1. Install the lock bolt spring (3) into the steering column tilt head assembly (5).
2. Position the cutout in the lock bolt assembly (4) at the 6 o'clock position.
3. Install the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column tilt head assembly (5)
4. Push the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column tilt head assembly (5) until the lock bolt assembly is flush with the steering column tilt head assembly (5).
5. Align the lock module assembly (2) with the steering column tilt head assembly (5).
6. Screw the 3 pan head tapping screws (1 )into the lock module assembly (2).
Tighten
Tighten the 3 pan head tapping screws to 7 N.m (62 lb in).
7. Slide the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (2) into the lock module assembly (1).
8. Push the key alarm connector (1) into the lock module assembly (2).
9. Rotate the key alarm connector (1) 90 degrees so that the key alarm connector (1) locks into place.
10. Install the passkey connector into the lock module assembly (2).
11. Place steering column lock cylinder set into the off position.
12. Place the shift lever clevis into the park position.
13. Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the lock module assembly.
14. Adjust the park lock cable assembly (1)by performing the following steps:
1. Use the gear shift lever to place the steering column in the park position.
2. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
3. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the off or lock position.
4. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
5. Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly using J 41396.
6. Pull on the park lock cable until the park lock latch contacts the gear shift lever.
7. Release the park lock cable.
8. Lock the adjuster ring securely in place on the park lock cable assembly using J 41396.
15. Inspect the park lock cable assembly by performing the following steps.
1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
2. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the off or lock position. The gear shift lever must remain locked in the park position.
3. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the run position.
4. Place the gear shift lever in the neutral position.
5. With the gear shift lever in the neutral position, the steering column lock cylinder set must remain out of the off or lock position.
6. Place the gear shift lever in the park position.
7. Put the steering column lock cylinder set in the off or lock position.
8. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
16. Install the steering column lock cylinder set. Refer to On-Vehicle Service; Tilt Column; Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement.
17. Install the upper tilt head components. Refer T/S Can. Cam, Upper Bearing Inner Race Disassemble (Column Shift).
