1998 - 2002 RODEO (UE) REAR STORAGE COMPARTMENT LID LOCK KNOB BROKEN

AFFECTED VEHICLES
All 1998-2002 Rodeo (UE) equipped with rear, side storage compartment.

Condition:





Affected vehicles may experience breakage of the lock knob locking pins (Figure 1) on the rear, side storage compartment lid due to excess pressure when closing. The knob may come out or just spin in the cover.

Correction:

It is no longer necessary to replace the complete rear, storage compartment lid/lock assembly to repair this condition. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to replace only the lock knob assembly with the new replacement knob (part number 8-97394-481-1, Gray or 8-97394-482-1, Beige).

1. Remove the rear side storage compartment cover.





2. If the knob is still in place, from the backside of the storage compartment lid, remove the lock knob by pushing in on the two (2) retaining tabs with a small screwdriver and push the knob out of the opening (Figure 2).

3. Insert the new knob into the lid pushing firmly until it snaps in place.

4. Reinstall the lid assembly back into the vehicle and insure correct knob operation.
